Hey gang. A guy in my local club gave me a free CB last night at our meet and greet. Just looking for ideas of how/where to mount the unit inside the XJ, and also a good mounting location for the antenna. Planning on a 3 ft. FireStik antenna. I found this mounting bracket that seems pretty well thought out and designed just for the XJ: http://motionoffroad.com/catalog/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=9_91&products_id=368&zenid=8b1d67c1de60f76a40b64c05525531ba

What do you guys think? And I'd like to see some pics of where you have your unit and antenna mounted so I can get some ideas. :D

TIA.

Most likely I'll stick it on the center of the dash or the pass. side of the tranny hump.

Anybody know where you can buy the plastic retainer bracket that holds the mic? Can't seem to find one anywhere.

And would a 2' antenna work OK if I mounted it next to the tail light? I want it to be as short as possible but still function well. I wheel in the woods a lot, and the canopy is low in WV. My XJ's roof looks worse than some people's skid plates. :D

Well, because of my location, I chose to mount my 4ft Firestik antenna so that I could store it inside the XJ when I'm not using it. I got tired of having to replace parts on my magnetic mount Li'l Will after it got ripped off the roof for the umpteenth time. We ran the wire along the lower molding inside on the driver side, into the trunk. I can pull the wire out thru the hatch & attach the screw-on mount to an arm on my tire carrier. It holds well as long as it's tightened properly. You can get an idea from the pic ...
They'll steal the shirt off your back in this city ...

My CB is mounted on the passenger side of the center console. It's within easy reach, and doesn't interfere with the passenger's legs.

I hang my mic behind the steering where, near the windshield wiper stalk, and then I have an additional speaker mounted to my overhead console so I can hear when people talk on the CB.

My antenna is mounted on the driverside on the hood channel. It's out of the way, I get good range, and doesn't hit anything while wheeling.

Firestik fender mount. The ideal place, IMHO, for running a shorty antenna (I run a 2' K40).

Those rear hatch mounts probably wouldn't last one trip for me. haha.

i have it in the same spot as you and many other kyle, and i've ripped it out ~5 times now. damn northeast and its trees.
Here in norcal we dont quite have the trees you do I suppose. Only time I have come close is when the jeeps driver side has been +/- 4" from the soil.

i had the antenna on my farm truck mounted on the mirror post, semi truck style, but the problem i ran into was sooooooooooo much interference from the ignition system i had to relocate it to the bed, on my XJ im gonna prolly mount it on one of the bumpers, and a whip mount for the flag required by the off road park
