At the encouragement of other members here is my 1996 Country 4x4. It is Stone White with a gray interior. I ditched the stock mags which I hated and got a full set of Grizzly's. The tires are Goodyear Wrangler Radials a little over size at 235/75 15. It has 192k on the clock, 4.0L w/AW4.

Thanks for the comments. She's not quite where I want her to be yet. A couple of small rust spots and parking lot dimples but only a few. Once the roof rust is taken care of I will reupholster the head liner, OH console and sound bar. Eventually new paint. The Country appliques will be hard to find though.
If I had an older XJ that had been abused or allowed to go the way that 25 year old vehicle's usually go, I might consider doing some mods to it but I'm a big fan of the way stock XJ's look, especially the pre 97's.
I drive a 96 stone pearl white XJ, and I approve this thread!
Kindred soul!

And just so everyone knows, as nice as my XJ appears here, the photos hide a LOT of blemishes. I have a lot of work to do.
Back in 94 when I bought my 92 XJ it seemed like XJ's were everywhere. I was one of three others that had them at my workplace and it only employed about twenty people. They are getting scarce now, especially earlier ones pre 97 body style change. If you see one on the road it usually is in scary condition. My local JY has several 97+ and only a few earlier ones. I try to make sure I get as much little stuff as I can as some parts are getting hard to find.
So true. All I usually see around here are Wranglers and most of them are new. I see very few XJs. When I see one its usually in terrible shape and on it's death bed. So Sad!
I don't know if it is appropriate here on this COTM forum but I'd love to see a few photos of your 96.
Hey guys, thanks for your positive comments on my XJ but it is not pristine ...however, I plan to make her that way....or as close as I can.

Funny thing. I was at a family get together this weekend. My nephew told me recently when he had the XJ for a bit and drove it to a friends house. The friends dad offered him two vehicles to trade for my XJ. He went crazy over it. A Ford Ranger and some VW car, didn't say what kind. He told him it wasn't his and couldn't. It would take a lot more that that to get me to give up my XJ. Also my nephew wants me to lift it and do all the things that some guys do to theirs and I said no, not gonna do it. If I can get it to where I want it, it will be worth way more than if I build it. Besides, I just love it the way it is, stock. If I ever sell it someone else can do all the stuff to it.
I appreciate your comment. I have a WK. It has just about every comfort a vehicle can have and most people usually come to expect from what was once a very expensive vehicle.

The XJ is a pure vehicle. Sure, the Country version and many of the other attempts by Jeep to dress up the XJ over the years, the Wagoneer, Brierwood and Limited, still could not disguise that driving it is like driving a log wagon. The ergos suck, even when it was new the electrics were a decade old, lousy leg room in the rear seat as well as really poor cushions. Even when it was new it was ten years behind the motor vehicle industry. The list could go on. I prefer to drive it over my WK Limited. I really feel like a snob when I pull up at a stop light next all the newer attempts at copying the XJ. I always think they just might be a little envious of my XJ.
Also, I do envy some of the work, money and blood sweat and tears people put into making their rig the way they want it. That is a dedication to a hobby that really shows. I love my stocker but I can also appreciate all the great XJ's that people here create.
