My fuel pump is going out. Need to but new one. Dont really want to pay 200 bucks for a fuel pump. Any ideas??
She would have my head if I sold her cars.
On a better/bad note. I think I might be keeping the jeep. I had a sign last night. I was going to tulsa to see that car I was going to buy. And out of nowhere the jeep dies 1 mile away from where the car is. So I get em pushed over to the side and I can start him. but wont stay started. So I pulled the fuel filter off. It was plugged bad. So my daddy came to the rescue. Took me to the parts store (autozone :brickwall. Only one open at 9 at night. And put fuel filter on. And he started right up. No problem. But with all the time it took to get all this done. The car I was going to look at sold. So I think it was a sign that I should just keep my jeep and not buy another car.
Second note:
After getting him all running good and everything. We stop by QT to get a drink and go potty. and we go back outside to leave jeep wont stay started again. So my fuel pump went out. bad filter caused it I believe. :brickwall:
:agree: I'd buy another and have it handy but first try cleaning the old one and reseating it.You stated that it started and ran 60 miles after kicking the fuel tank.
It's possible you may have a loose/dirty connection at the pump. Try disconnecting, cleaning and put some dielectric grease in the connector. Might as well eliminate one more possibility.
Same one new for less then $99: http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/x,carcode,1182057,parttype,6256
True. But if Im going to go through all the trouble. I want to just replace it all. The fuel pump its self will work yes. But why not get the one off ebay for the same price that come with it all? If it was not for me looking on ebay I would have too the route of buying just the fuel pump its self.:agree: I'd buy another and have it handy but first try cleaning the old one and reseating it.
As for a replacement...

Second, you can always buy one used from a junk yard.
Ask around, I'm sure someone you know knows of a good "self service auto dismantler." They useally have flat rate prices for predetermined parts. You guys can all drool over what I pay here in cali, I'm recycling  http://www.pickyourpart.com/pricing/
PS don't forget a new gasket / seal for when you crack the seal on the tank.
Just so you know, you don't need to replace the WHOLE fuel pump housing. My fuel pump went out in my XJ about 2 months ago. All you need to do is replace the pump itself (asuming all the other parts are good). Just take the whole assembly out of the tank, remembering which way it sat in there(very important), and set it on something clean like a towel or something. Then just take the assembly apart following the instructions that come with the new pump. The hardest part on mine was just getting the thing out of the tank :brickwall:, but other than that it's pretty easy and can be done with everyday tools.
Here is a link to the pump that you need in your zip code:
