I am going to U-haul to grab a trailer. I'm actually hoping the trailer we reserved is NOT there cuz they guarantee it or $50 to you. They never called yesterday when they said they would call the day before to confirm it so...... Please don't be there!!!!

Anyways, we are picking up a 5x9 open trailer. My arse is up 4.5" with 31" tires. I have a class III hitch that came with a free 2" drop. Do you think this is good enough to tow that trailer? Should i get a bigger drop?

those U-haul trailers are a low slug trailer for ease of loading and unloading. I would suggest a more aggressive drop, somewhere in the 4" range. Dependant on your U-haul station, sometimes they wony let atrailer leave the lot if it is not within certain guidlines with the vehicle that it is being towed with. One last thing, they will probably try and gig ya for their "special" trailer light adaptor. They have some jacked up adapter that has bullet connectors and a flat-4 harness all jumbled together. I have been stung 3 times now b/c I forget to bring one with me each time....so I just bought my own trailer :D

2" drop is nothing, some stock height vehicles need that much or more to tow a normal trailer. I'd say you'll need at least a 4" drop bar, if not a 6" drop.

When I had ~6" lift and 33s I had to use an 8" drop bar to tow our camper.

Well i got lucky today. I went in to the uhaul location, which happens to be in Beaver Falls and it's the ghetto area of the town. The dude working at the desk had more piercings than i could count but he was cool. He jolted down all my info, told me what was required, and went outside to show me where the trailer was. There was no inspection, except a little bit of drooling he did checking out my rig. The trailer was a bit odd though. There was a large bracket of some sort welded on the main bar, which lowered it a good 6" and leveled it with the jeep perfectly. The hitch wiring i got from 4wd hardware worked with the trailer so i had no issues today. I just wish they would put softer springs or shocks on those things. it was quite a site looking in the mirror and watching that thing hop in the air on every pothole.

My HD old man emu springs handled the towing with ease. I had about 800 lbs in the front of the trailer and 300 in the rear of the jeep. The springs only squatted about 1/2" and rode so nicely.

good to hear a positive outcome from U-haul. 2 weeks ago they would not rent a trailer to a buddy of mne whos TJ busted an axle, so we went back and rented a 14" box truck and put the TJ in the back of it. Look at post 128 on this page for the pics...it was a bit amusing...but hey, that is what he gets for bringing a TJ to a XJ gathering!!

UHaul sucks. i set up my XJ to tow a utility trailer that carries my MT bike and pops' motorcycle, and has an enclosed spot to keep boxes of shit for trips and such, and they tried to tell me my wiring was faulty. i even plugged it in to one of their trailers and showed them it worked. stubborn f*^%s still told me my wiring was bad. so i asked them for a tester. they told me to get out lol.
