anyone done this? i need to bypass mine cuz its leaking and killing me, even with the heater off. someone explained how to bypass it but wasnt clear and im not sure where the heater core hose is.

any help appreciated.

since I dont use heater here in PR, well I just took the hose out, and put in a nipple hose,, just to cover that exit and thats it.. and the same on the AC part,, I dont want nothing getting there,, thats about it..

Take a look at your pass side firewall. You'll see two 3/4" hoses running into the firewall, these are your inlet and return to the heater core. Follow back to the thermostat housing, take that hose and loop it back.

If this doesnt help i'll try to snap a pic for you in am.

Take a look at your pass side firewall. You'll see two 3/4" hoses running into the firewall, these are your inlet and return to the heater core. Follow back to the thermostat housing, take that hose and loop it back.

That should do it. I just needed to know where the hoses were and that helped. Thanks! belto too. ;)

Alright i found the hoses. They are running along the top of the engine into the passenger firewall. One is 5/8 and one is 11/16. Since both are different thicknesses, how do i go about bypassing them? Is there a 11/16 / 5/8 hose adapter out there?


Also, is there a way to drain the heater core? I don't want to leave the coolant in there if it's leaking.

Just loop the larger one and clamp that bitch down.

This question is year specific. If you just loop the tstat housing back to the water pump one on a closed system, you will have major problems. Open one, sure.

There's a nipple-nipple adapter out there that will work fine. They make them to do lots of weird things. Just hit up a decent hardware store, or sometimes auto-parts stores have 'em.

And to drain the heater core, you have a couple of options. With the hoses off it, flip the jeep onto the passenger side. If this doesn't sound ideal, pull the HVAC housing apart (it's held together with a bunch of screws), and pull the core out. At which point I'd recommend throwing a new one in, but that's up to you...

I believe i have the open system correct?

Pull the heater core out? I thought you have to remove the entire dash to get to it?

Cut your inlet hose off an stick a bolt in it and clamp it down is the redneck way they also sell a heater hose block off cap at most parts houses.

Keep in mind if you get into wheeling at all you are not going to want to worry about scratching the paint job.
