I guess I've always been a pretty relaxed person. You just need to altar your perspective; the way you ALLOW things to effect you. Positive and negative things will come and go, but the degree of positivity and negativity is merely how you allocate it. I guess what I'm saying is... "Don't sweat the small stuff. And it's all small stuff."

I have really severe form of an anxiety disorder as well as panic disorder. There is a drastic difference between anxiety and panic attacks.

Right now what you need to figure out is what is causing the attacks. This can be done through therapy, which is covered by most medical insurance plans.

Secondly, there are several coping mechanisms for the attacks. They range from breathing techniques to seeing a counselor to medication. Medication is typically only needed if the anxiety ranges from moderate to severe, not just everyday anxieties that everyone has to deal with. Here are some coping mechanisms that work best for me:
-Taking several deep breaths
-Removing myself from the situation I am in, i.e. taking a walk outside
-This one is strange, but it works: Burning a candle, and concentrating on the burning flame. For some reason this is very calming.
-Closing my eyes and laying down flat on my back (sometimes even on the floor) while controlling my breathing. When doing this, place your hand on your stomach. You should be breathing in such a way that your hand is rising up and down with your breaths. Have you ever seen a baby breathe? They breathe using their diaphragms, which you can see by the rise and fall of their bellies with each breath. This is the healthiest way to breathe (we just screw it up as we age :))
-Write down exactly how you were feeling before the attack began. You can begin to see patterns, and can determine how to prevent future attacks.

I hope this helps. Anxiety has been a major part of my life, and is something I struggle with every day. It is something I will have to deal with for the rest of my life. I may go a long time between attacks (even years), but I will always have to fight to keep them away. Anyways, I have alot of experience in dealing with them. There can be many causes, which can be complex to determine. I hope everything gets better for you.

well my anciety problems started when I startes college, im a real relax guy, things dont used to bother me that much, I knew I had a test and I didnt sweat it,, 10 mins before the test and still no study done and im as cool as I could be, but know, even if I know I know this material well its just there, at first I had headaches, then lower back, then upper back, then it finally got my insides, my stomach, I used to bomit and it went away, then now I have learned to control that bc I cant keep bomiting bc I all ready have my stomach and exsofagous badly hurt, so today I get this high pulse.. so I was a lil scared if you ask me bc that had never happen before and well 6 month ago a friend my age had heart surgery bc of taquicardia.. so IDK, I need a fix fast,

also I did some breathing exercise and that calmed me down, also I rememberd hearing my friends Dr. telling his mom that if he had a bad attach to apply persure to the eyes with out poping one of course,, so I did that too, also I drank a lil water.. and well my friends started talking to me and distracting me from the test.. so that worked.. but I want to prevent this not fix them after I get them

Panic attacks are caused by a chemical imbalance in the brain. Medication is often times necessary for the brain to re-learn how to function normally. I'm on meds too (Celexa). However, for me, therapy was absolutely crucial to recover as well. I'm just really glad that there are so many treatment options for folks like us nowadays.

Just to be clear...I am NO WAY an advocate of meds to solve problems. I completely believe that too many doctors overprescribe to solve people's issues. I simply believe that there are cases where medicine is needed in order to solve a problem in the brain. Some people are diabetic, meaning they have to inject themselves with insulin because their body is unable to produce it. Similiarly, some people's brains are unable to process certain chemicals that prevent anxiety attacks and allow them to function normally.

I agree with above..

I'm on Xanax as needed. But I also suffer from Bi-Polar disorder. For years now I've been trying to learn to live with it. And it has cost me more than one great job. I have a real problem with Manic Mod swings due to this. But the Panic attacks as of this year got to a point as to were I could no longer handle them on my own..

Bi Polar is a chemical imbalance in the brain, how you get it I don't know my family has a long history of it. And I was first diagnosis with it about 17 years ago. For many years I took meds, but than I started "abusing" the meds. At that point I chose to try and learn to live with it. And it can be hard some days, sad no reason, other days it's like I won the loto. And some times I'll swing like that in the same day. For no real reason..

Belto I have the same sort of deal you do, I get nervous before tests. But what I have found that helps best is to just study A LOT. Overstudy if possible, do as much as you can so you feel confident going into the exam rather then thinking about what you havent studied for.

well to tell you the truth I was trying to study extra just to make sure, for the test, and then it started so I did not study at all for this test,, I just had what the Prof said in class, and lil Ive read yesterdays night and well I did very well, seriously if I dont get 100% I will be desapointed, the thing that worked today to make me relax was just having friends talk to me about anything so that lil by lil get into the conversation, and how im such a fast talker and well to tell you the truth I talk to much,, I ended up dominating the conversation but my friend said the change was very significant bc at first I was pale and had bags under my eyes, then after all that I was back to my normal color and self

I had this problem when i first became deaf. It more like "fear" than anxiety. Any event where other folks were around would get me nervous as hell because i was so worried about not hearing what someone would say or missing stuff, or even misinterpreting them and making a fool out of myself (which happened VERY OFTEN then). It got so bad to the point where my arm pits would pour like a waterfall just talking to someone. Over the years, my confidence boosted and i became more laid back and didn't care much for what others thought or viewed me as. Now i'm comfortable and no longer nervous around people or doing things. I could say fitness played a huge role in this "recovery". Fitness doesn't only just make you healthy, it has a HUGE impact on your self-esteem and confidence.

I have a few ways to deal with stress and anxiety. I have a high-stress job and a very busy lifestyle, so I get a little stoved up now and again myself.

1. Kick my shoes and socks off and either walk in the grass or go stand in the ocean. Amazingly refreshing and has a major grounding and de-stressing effect. A lake or river will do as well.

2. Sit in my back yard with a fire going in the fire pit. My home backs onto a patch of forest and is a very relaxing and natural.

3. Get in the Jeep and head into the hills for some non-city time. I love to fish. A quiet lake or stream is most excellent for destressing ... until you see a bear then it's a little stressful again

4. Head to Wreck Beach (a local nude beach) and get naked with the hippies. Best in the summer months :D and there is nothing like being naked in the warm sun with 500 other naked people to forget about the daily gripes

As you can see I prefer natural remedies.
