as far as the 4.0l
the convertible that the brother had cam with no motor and was a buick v6 that was in it. he swaped in a 258 that had been rebuilt. all we had to do is lift the body about 3 or 4" to clear the trany. was not a big deal. that motor moved the comando no problem. I saw one with a 350 in it one time and was told that was a eazy swap aswell.
just depends on what you want.
all I can tell you is that old jeep was a tank. my bro neve took it off road much but I did trail it every once and a wial. it would climb the side of a house and if you could not it would pull it down for ya.
