Replaced a bunch of things trying to get heat for winter- total mystery, still doesn't work. Decided to take a good look underneath since bottoms of all 5 doors rusting out, inner and outer rockers are rust and dust. More rust trouble underneath, beyond my capability. Needs floor pans and other stuff. Would need some fabrications, welding etc. Engine runs great a little over 209,000. I could do all the cosmetics to body but that won't matter if underside keeps rusting. 1998 4door xj i6 3in lift, almost new tires. Idk what it's worth, throw some prices at me so I have some idea what to ask, I know they're going up in price but I doubt kbb is gonna help with this. I don't wanna sell it but I can't save it 😭

The interior is plain stock except for crappy radio. Actually interior is in damn good shape for it's age. Auto trans 4x4, outside fenders and bumpers are plastic. Don't know anything about the lift, may be homemade. The guy I bought it from bought it from the guy who installed that. Except for the lift and huge tires that cost about $1,000 there are no other extras or mods that I know of. Of course the original owner's manual is not with it. I did have to replace the ignition, simple enough but now there are keys for the doors and keys for the ignition (small inconvenience). Also has new water pump, alternator, mech fan and shroud new brakes all around including disks and drums and some other little things I'll have to find my records for. If you live in a state where you have inspections, it won't pass. It has a new exhaust system but no cat bc I couldn't afford it, not that I don't care about pollution. They don't do inspections here. Located north east of Detroit. I am going to look at maybe some sandblasting and fluid film but I would be surprised if I could manage it and keep up on it every year. I'm gonna put up some pics of underside but I have never taken a pic of body or interior except guage cluster. I call it the blueberry, it's a weird light blue metallic faded idk what color jeep calls it. Perrywinkle might be a possibility but I lost my 128 color box of crayons 🙃 Should I do a poll? If I'm only gonna get 1,500 for it I may just drive it until the wheels fall off. Should I do a poll for what it might fetch? Thank you!

Looks like a typical rust belt XJ. Rockers are shot. floor pans too. You have a transfer case drop, that's the blocks that the crossmember is bolted too. I think your rear axle is a Dana 35. Fronts are always a Dana 30. Tires are Goodyear Wrangler Authorities, Good for wear, not the greatest off road. Probably 3-4" lift. stock control arms. Need pics of the outside. front and rear. But I'm gonna say $2500.00 max. I'm south of Pittsburgh PA. Same rust crap over here.

It may take some time to get pics. The thing is still 30 miles away and my buddy can be arbitrarily cranky, maybe he'll take the pics, idk. I was just there last Sunday but Idk when I can get a ride out there again maybe a week, maybe 3. I hope you're not in a huge hurry. May I curiously ask what you plan on doing with it? I'll post pics as soon as I can get them. Thanks.

Ok. I still may post the body pics, see what you say about that. Then I can better decide whether I sell it or drive it to it's bitter end. I have had people just walk up to me and ask if I want to sell it, I've always said no but next time I'll say make an offer. Maybe I'll get lucky or maybe it's cheaper to keep her and keep saving up money. There's no truck I could buy for 2,500 or less that would be any better so "better the devil you know"... for now. 🤔 I appreciate your opinion, thank you.

You say the repairs are beyond your capability, but I say many things were beyond my capabilities until I started working on my sons Xj. Found it was quite enjoyable working on cars again. Hadn't touch a wrench let alone a welder for over 35 years. Now we are building rigs and welding all sorts of projects from bumpers, sliders and body work.

My buddy has to do his floorplans and I have some floor pan issues as well. We will be tackling that next.

I appreciate what you're saying and it's great that you're hangin' with your son and enjoying the work! I would love to learn all that stuff but I'm on disability for bad back and epilepsy which = no money, bending, lifting or welding. I might still be able to do a little bondo and paint, but that's about it. Wanna work on mine for fun 😁 I jest of course but hey, I appreciate you trying to lift my spirits and motivate. Thank you sincerely 👍🙂
