My leaf springs are squeaking/scraping like mad. The old man emu extra leaf i added did not come with friction pads on the underside so it's scraping/squeaking on the leaf below it. I am 90% deaf and i can hear it so it's pretty darn loud...and annoying. Is there anything i can do about this? Any substitute for friction pads? I dunno if you can buy those. I figured i'd wrap about 50 layers of duct tape on each end of the leaf and hope that lasts about a year. I dunno.....

help me stay sane please. :(

what ya guys suggest?

Did you try some sort of graphite grease, might attract some dirt but it would be quiet

I put some white lithium(?) spray on mine. Took care of it until it rained, now they are squeaking again.

I have the AAL from RC. The plan was always to get the full leaf packs later. I'll be doing that in a few months, maybe sooner, but Christmas is coming up.

AAL are just bad in my opinion, but I needed to keep my lift cheap.

I would like a permanent solution. I read about the old-school greasing method but it requires you do that frequently. I'm just too lazy :)

You might be able to use industrial graphite spray, it's ment to be applied like a paint. And I think you can get actual paint that has a graphite or teflon additive.

But, some spring shops are good enough to know how to drill a hole in the spring and stick on an anti-friction pad.

Not on my Jeep but on a pickup we had when I was a kid. My dad cut strips of plastic like a milk jug or oil container and placed that between the leaves and I never heard a peep from them. He soaked the plastic overnight in oil too before putting it between the leaves.
He told me once that during the depression he had a truck that he wrapped the leaves in burlap after slathering grease on them and when he changed the oil he would resoak the burlap with the used oil. That was on a tractor trailer truck he was part owner of.

I had the same problem not too long ago, and this was my solution....don't laugh, it worked!! I took some motor oil and poured it on top of the leaf packs and let it run down the sides. The next morning I pulled up the newspaper and wiped off the springs and axle tube, and it's been quite ever since. I did this a few months back, and the leaves don't squeak anymore. It's easy, which works out for your laziness issue, and cheap, because I don't recall you ever talking about being wealthy, so that should help!!
