I was at another forum (JF) and got a PM from the administrators. Their new membership fees are ridiculous. $30 for one year, $150 for lifetime. What the........:brickwall:

yup. I paid once, $25, a couple years ago and spent quite a bit of time on that forum. I noticed it changing after a while. People becoming a-holes, attitudes, and lack of assistance (GO SEARCH! blah blah). Totally the opposite of this forum. I don't hang out there much anymore, just when i need some info that this or the "other" forum doesn't contain.

I guess it costs some $$ to run a forum. I dunno what goes into running them but i don't think it's neccessary to charge THAT much.

JF is making a profit off selling memberships, sponsorships and ads.. That's how they make there money..It's tough to make a living off ads along but $30 a year considering how many paying members they have is pretty high I must say.

For sure! On one of the forums I once ran for my local truck club (When I was a slammed S-10 owner) we had it set up so if a person enjoyed the forum and wanted to help out, they could "Donate" to the forum to help out with hosting and related stuff...and if you've got a good user base, and run a decent forum, people will donate...I didn't want to deal with a paid membership type of set up because it can turn into more hassle than it's really worth.
Although we did send a sticker to all who donated at least the cost of a sticker, and something under their avatar to say that they had donated...but we didn't really have any other paid or donated member privileges other then that.

I suppose it really depends on how much your website is costing you a month or per year, or whatever...

JF has gotten greedy like some of the other sites out there.

Well I support about three or four sites but feel it is payback for the education that they gave me and continue to give me about Jeeps and XJs in particular. That's just me though. I wear Nomex when posting on many anymore.
