well I might sell the XJ, yesterday night I went for an hour drive to buy some MTs, and coming back home it was real slow and smoking.. and well I thought it might be me dragging the brakes, but this morning I went to move it and it was real slow, didnt want to get to gear, so I took it to the tranny warranty, (for those who dont know I had the tranny rebuild 5 months back $1500) and luckily is covered, if it is tranny, and well I cant have that insecurity of loosing the tranny, and I dont have the money to pay again for a new one, so I might fix it and sell it and get something else, maybe an other XJ, maybe a toyota pick up 4x4 manual 4 cylinder, (I saw one that I liked) lets see what happens, but dont I wont be leaving the site.

something like this i might buy, if I dont get an other xj http://www.clasificadosonline.com/UDTransDetail.asp?AutoNumAnuncio=881888

I don't know how your money situation is but why don't you upgrade your motor and trans to something better like a small block chevy and trans, there basicly bulletprof and parts are cheap for them.

I agree. I still think you should keep it. You know you really dont want to get rid of her. I say the same thing when a vehicle craps on me. Ill just sell it. But I never really want to.

I would sell mine in a heart beat but unfortunatly with everything that is wrong with mine I can't even give it away. I have tried to trade it in but none of the dealers in my area will take it either. I can't get anyone to steal the damn thing. Funny is my next door neighbors vehicle was stolen recently and it's parked right next to mine...............

Hey belto, if you get a toyota, try to find one 1985 or older. They are the ones with solid front axles.

I suggest you go back to the tranny place and bit$h at them. Make em fix it. If a tranny is properly rebuilt, it should last a very long time. To me, it seems yours was not rebuilt correctly.

are you sure it's the tranny? I never seen a tranny smoke before, except ones that were leaking fluid on hot parts.

Ya thats the only explanation IMO for a tranny smoking, it is over filled with oil and it spills out onto exhaust.

I have to agree with the majority. You know what you have now, and you could just end up with someone elses headache. I am on my 12th or 13th vehicle (I can't remember anymore) and it took me this long to realize just that. So many people just sell vehicles because of their problems rather than fix them and you end up getting screwed because of it.

I would just admit that you love it and learn to have a love/hate realtionship. I'm sure others would agree that there XJ has pissed them off and sometimes would rather light it on fire and get the insurance money, than mess with it anymore. And once it's all fixed you'll be all happy again.

Till the next time something goes wrong.....

Isnt that the truth, other then money or mechanical issues there really isnt a whole lot of reason for people to sell their vehicles. Think about it.

The main reason I never plan on selling my XJ is because I KNOW my XJ. It's had its issues, its breakdowns, its problems. And I scraped together pennies and fixed them, and in doing so I got to see the ins-and-outs of the mechanics. If I were to abandon the XJ and get something else, I'd be starting all over again, the first time it had something go wrong, I'd probably have to take it somewhere and pay someone to fix it, and I REALLY hate doing that.

Best part of my XJ is when something goes wrong I ALWAYS look for a way to make an upgrade at that point so it will be longer lasting this time. I can pretty much feel how long something has before it goes wrong and 99% of the time I can do it myself. Nothing better then the feeling after you are done fixing your own vehicle.

That's how it was with my TJ. I knew it inside and out and the moment a problem occured, i knew exactly what it was. When i got the xj, i had to learn everything all over again, but some of it was similar to the TJ, like the front suspension.

You are lucky, generally speaking they are similar. Imagine switching to a new compact car, all of the computers :brickwall:

Bulletproof is the definition of the 4.0l and Aw-4 combo....

Better isn't the definition of a SBC.....

Why are parts so cheap??... They break down ALOT, so you will be buying plenty of them...
