So today i went on my first wheeling trip, EVER! My buddy Shane was nice enough to invite me as a passenger in his rig (boxed blazer). Him, Mike (V8 Dakota), Mike (Samar i), Jay (Samar i with his wife), and Eric (Tacoma with Chaz as Passenger). I am so used to everyone's Jeeps and being set up for trails. Not these guys, they were set up for rock crawling! It was so awesome! I seriously did much better than i thought i would do.

While we were waiting for the rest of the guys to get there, Shane took me on the competition run to break me in a little and see how far he could go, before i got scared. I did get a little nervous when i was looking straight down on my side, but just held on to my 4 point harness, tight and closed my eyes. (I was determined not to freak out and scream).

When ever one got there we hit the trails. We did some real gnarly camber stuff, and I did have to step out of the rig a couple times, because it was too sketchy for me. We had a few breaks and ate, while they were fixing their rigs, but all and all it was pretty awesome, i got some sweet videos with Shane's camera, (including when he sheered off the hitch receiver and broke his drive shaft from a complete vertical climb) but i will put those links up as soon as he gets it on youtube and sends me the links. I had a awesome time, and now i am HOOKED! I cant wait till spring when we go up more often, and hopefully by then i will have a DD (Daily Driver) and take my Jeep up there too. Well night all, i am exhausted.

what was funny was we were at rosche creek off road park in PA, and took the rock creek trail, the jeeps (yj's, one xj and one Comanche) were watching us, because they couldn't follow us on that one.

Yeah that's usually how it goes. Yotas are pretty much the way to go when you go rockcrawling. With yotas you have to do a solid axle swap to wheel and so if you go through that much work, you are going to put at least 35s on it and lockers.

Have to disagree with that, TJ's/YJ's/XJ's make outstanding rockcrawling rigs. Not downplaying 'Yotas at all because they can definately be well-built and run crazy stuff, but Jeeps are extremely capable on the rocks.

I've wheeled Rausch more times than I'd like to admit, and my XJ has done marvelously there. A rig is only as good as what you build it for. If you build it for rocks, then it should work well, if you build it for mud then it should work well. If you a build a general purpose rig, then it should work well in various types of terrains.

Rock Creek is alot of fun, I played on it for a while back in October, hoping to hit it again this spring when I get back out to Rausch.

Gearheadette - you should look up KGB Krawlers. They're based out of MD and are a GREAT group of people to wheel with. I've personally wheeled with some of them at Rausch and at Big Dogs and they're alot of fun.

all the jeeps that were up there this weekend were basicly stock, a few lifted ones with some mods, there was 2 yj's that were really done up, but we were the only rock-crawling set up on these rigs.

I will look into that. the group that was watching us, is called "Jeeps-R-Us"
