Hi, my name is Mark, and I'm in Mentor Ohio. Everyone now say, "Hi Mark..."
I've been an IHRA drag racer for a long time, and now think it's time for a change. Could be mid life crises too, as I just hit 50...

Anyway, I'm seriously looking at '99-'01 XJs, I6\auto. Not really looking to be a serious 'wheeler', but I could see this getting muddy once and a while. We DO get some nasty snow around here.
I like the size, boxy styling and durability. In north eastern Ohio, these are going for $4-$7k depending on mileage. Most the ones I've looked at, are pushing 100k in miles.

So, what I need to know, is what to look for in a used XJ. Meaning, what inherent problems should I be aware of. The only thing I'm already in tune to, is the "Death Wobble", from worn front steering parts and track bar bushings.

What's the better TC, NP231 "Command-Trac", or the NP242 "Selec-Trac" ???
What's the trim difference between the Classic and the Sport ???

Currently in storage for the winter is my '63 Chevy Nova. Owned since 1988.
400+.03 (406) small block, Auto (Th400) and 3.73s. Runs 12.90s at 102 mph
Possibly for sale in the spring.
