I just recently bought my 87' Cherokee, but I've wanted it for years...and I'm already in love with it. I'm having problem's getting my 4x4 to engage...I don't have an original manual can someone tell me the procedure...I've heard people say you have to roll backwards but that doesn't seem to work. There's nothing to lock in my front hubs...someone please help...a Jeep is not a Jeep without 4 wheel drive.:dunno:

Welcome to CT. Check the vacuum lines going from the transfer case to the front axle.

Your front axle has a vac disconnect to engage the 4wd, check it for leaks its a common problem.

I also would check the Vaccum lines that go to the front axle and make sure they are in good condition.
