The "majority" of them should be 3.55 as that was pretty much the norm for autos back then.popping it open wouldnt be a bad thing if you find more than one to match up to you gear ratio.
I realize there are many options but majority will be 3.55Don't be to shocked it you find them with 4.10 gears also, seeing as alot of the XJ's that got the D44's also had tow packages. And in many of them they got 4.10 gears. I've also see 3 XJ D44's with factory 4.56's in them, they were 4cyl. with tow package. So there are many gear options out there...
I think I will probably replace the seals before I put them under the jeep anyways but I am unsure.Look for a wet pinion seal area too Kyle. The seal that is on them is pretty suseptable to wear and leaking.
Ya I know they can be found I just want to make sure I'm not going to dump a bunch of money into it.44>8.8.. at least until you get a super 8.8 kit.
kyle your in cali, everything isnt rusted to hell youre lucky.
check the brakes, parts for them can add up quick.. or just swap in discs. when you gear you replace just about all of the seals/bearings anyway, cept i would get new axle bearings pressed on regardless of the condition theyre in from the JY.
