It replaced the Bugatti Veyron as the world's fastest car when it was unveiled in 2006, with a top speed almost 20mph more, not to mention a price tag of around $500,000 less. But Bugatti is already working a new model of the Veyron to try and regain their long-held top spot.
But that's according to the fine people at the Guinness Book of World Records. If I'm not mistaken, neither the Barabus TKR or the Bugatti Veyron were acknowledged by Guinness. But... I could be wrong. Either way, the Barabus is smaller and lighter than the SSC, and just prettier to look at IMO.The title of "fastest production car" WAS the Barabus TKR and now the new title holder is the SSC Ultimate Aero TT,which is a turbo V8 outputting 1183 HP and 1094 lbs. of torque. On a temporarily-closed 2 lane public highway in Washington State, the SSC Ultimate Aero posted a top speed of 257.11 mph (413.83 kph) on its first pass and 254.55 mph (409.71 kph) on its return pass, achieving a new top speed record: a staggering 255.83 mph (411.76 kph).
