Haha.....I thought I was the only one who did that. I like to listen just in case I hear something that sounds broken. I also do it so I can familiarize myself with normal sounds so I know what sounds shouldn't be there.

I also wheel in ATV country so I like to hear them comming......cause they don't tend to slow down much around blind corners.

I like a bit from all kinds of music. On the trails though, I feel disjointed from my Jeep if I cannot hear it groaning and clunking around. I want to hear if something sounds bad or off. So, no tunes while wheeling, just on the way too and from, and like I say, It could be anything from Dwight Yokum to Slayer.

I listen to 4 angry squirrels fighting over a nut. I listen to my coil springs hit every rung on my isolators when I'm at full flex cuz my LCAs aren't long enough. I listen to the grunt and growl of the mighty 2.5 liter as it shows its bigger brothers how its done. I listen to the pops and creaks of a Y-link suspension under pressure. I listen to rocks shifting under my tires as I make my way up the trail. I listen to the splash of a mud hole just as rogue droplets find their way into the cab.

Jeeps do make beautiful music.

Depending on the difficulty of the trail, I'll have some tunes on, but usually at a low volume. because in addition to the sounds of the Jeep, and nature, I've also got to keep an ear on the CB in case the others I'm with need a helping hand, or a suggestion, etc...

If I do have tunes on, it's usually some band like "Clutch", or maybe osme country...

I haven't wheeled yet and can't really comment on what I listin to when I wheel but I use to street race and I would listin to metal up intill the race and then kill the tunes because I like to hear the road and the vehicle and the other guy let off because he knows he has no chance lol!

Nice! I like it! But street racing is wrong and I have Never Ever participated in it when I was younger. Especially not when I had my Camaro... :D
