I dont think they deserve anything, they have money, so They deserve to pay, they are the ones making profit in all of this so let them share that profit,,, instead the working people that strougle to to pay 1 house or trailer, a car, and medicare, studys for children, also have to pay more taxes, and carry the economy BS the people that make profit should pay AKA big business . the more you have the less you pay, it should be the more you have the more you pay.. bc you can...

Come on...Where are all the republicans in this thread.

Everyone that says BIG BUSINESS deserves the tax breaks...Deserves the Higher pay for the CEOs because they have the education.

I'm waiting for all these great responses.

And belto...I don't totally agree on the higher income means higher taxes....i have been a fair tax person. Whatever the percentage...18 20 whatever. Everyone pays the same.

So if you make $100, you pay $18 or $20. If you make 100,000,000, you pay 18,000,000 and so on.

Here is your tax breaks, big pay to CEOs with the education. Here is that trickle down effect you always hear about. You might recognize some of the companies in this first link. They are now out of business, bankrupt, etc.

http://articles.moneycentral.msn.co...nks-broke-down-ceos-cashed-in-slide-show.aspx

Or this one

http://www.nfmpolitico.com/khou/2008/10/07/lehman-ceo-hit-hard-in-hill-hearing/

Let me see...How many ZEROS were in those numbers. And wow..I think that was one, two commons. Yep folks the LEADER of this company walked away with $480 MILLION after bankrupting it.

Or how about this little news bit.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/10/07/AR2008100702604.html

Let me see...We the PEOPLE through taxes give you 85 BILLION as a bail out. And YOU the leaders of the company you almost destroyed decided to discuss your next bonuses over a 440,000 spa weekend?????

And the republicans think trickle down works. I know I don't take 440k to the spa with me. I fart in the bath tub and hope it doesn't stink.

Trickle down for my repubs at my company....Close a deal for 200 MILLION profit. 60% of the company received bonuses in the range of 5k-40k. 40% upper management got bonuses too. 4-10 MILLION each. And ALL of us worked to make the deal happen.

Well the major point here...Every SINGLE VOTE for McCain is a vote to help big business keep screwing US the workers of this country.

I notice when the facts and links start coming out...We have a sever limit to the repubs that show up here to defend this type of waste and destruction to the country.

It is the corporate thinking in this country since the end of the second world war. Not gonna change it overnight. Bailout or no bailout. Congress also added so much pork to the bailout that they are well known for, thus are a part of the same thinking. It can't be blamed on one party or the other.
What we need is a wiping of the entire slate and a fresh start in Congress as well as big business.

First of all, the bailout was the worst blunder in US economic history. Period.

However, don't let that fool you. Big companies file bankruptcy every day. Thats capitalism. Our government is who should be blamed for the absolute loss of $700 Billion. When the government steps in directly to intervene in economic affairs, thats socialism.

Second of all, tax breaks are what drive our economy. Say a company wants to move into a new region. Different areas offer different tax incentives to draw said company. They do this because they know that new business brings new jobs to the area. New jobs means unemployment rates go down. When people have jobs, they have money to spend. That builds the economy.

Now, say the government decides to raise taxes on big business. This causes the business to raise prices. Who does this affect? The end consumer. You and me. Higher prices means less money in our pockets. That affects spending, which in turn affects the economy, negatively.

In the end, we get screwed either way it goes. But in the long run, we are getting off easy right now. Big business might get big tax breaks, but they still pay more than 50% of all the taxes paid in the United States.

On a different note, these multi-million dollar CEOs of these big companies.... there is nobody worth that kind of salary... i call B.S. on that one.

I agree with Junkyard, we can't tax are way out of this. Obama's gonna raise taxes on 250,000 and up, problem is that hits small buisness too. Small buisness in this tax bracket is the main job maker in the US economy right now. So the only people makeing jobs right now is gonna get busted by Obama so the middle class can have a tax break and health care. The middle class are the ones with the good loans and health care so I'm not sure where he is going with that. Bill Clinton ran on the same middle class tax breaks and instead of lowering them he raised them, how funny is that. Same Democratic, class warfare, change crap we get every time.

See that is the problem with politicians. They can say they are going to lower taxes all they want, but in the end, they have this country so far in debt there is no way they could ever do that. So they have to renig on their promises, and go the exact opposite.

Why? What was the alternative?
Don't bail them out. Let the companies fold. Let the crumbling economy go ahead and fall. Its still happening in spite of the "bailout".

What was the first thing the money hungry CEOs did when they got that check? They took an all expense paid $400 million trip ON OUR DIME. So let em suffer. Capitalism at its finest.

So Jon...Would you say its better to borrow 5 TRILLION from China or other countries, run up a tab with interest that will have a rough IF EVER chance of getting paid off in our lifetime??

At some point, the bill has to be paid off. How?? Through taxes. Last I checked, the government is a COSTING center, it doesn't seem to produce anything but a huge bill. Gov supplies tons of jobs for themselves at the cost of the us tax payer.

So after 12 years of reagan and bush sr driving the debt up to 4 trillion from a cool 900 billion during carter. Clinton took it from a low 4 trillion to a 5.6 trillion figure during 8 years...And JR took us up to 10 trillion PLUS. When exactly were the repubs thinking of paying it back?? I count almost 8 trillion in debt which is directly responsible to the repub terms.

The middle class tax breaks...Or taxing big business, or taxing who or whatever you want is going to have to happen at some point. Its about responsibility. And before you blame the Dems in congress...Take a hard look at the 6 years the repubs have had control during JR...then go back and look at history and see how many years repubs had congress during Bush and Reagan.

End result, we all have no idea what a pres will do until he gets there...serves his 4 or 8 years and is gone. Clinton said he would put in universal health care for all. I believed it....and it never happened. I was rather angry about that topic. But if obama gets in and does the 250k and up taxing, he may include a small business tax break...Or he may not. Who knows...and frankly as disgusted as I am about BOTH guys running, I am starting to care less about even voting for presidential elections given the electoral college. I can still vote local where the vote counts. But for the pres...its a brotherhood game and he who knows enough power players gets in. IE Jeb Bush controlling Florida when his brother George Bush JR won. (I still think it was a cooked election.)

The good thing about this election is, whoever wins is going to be a one termer. History shows that whoever inherits a mess like this, usually gets voted out at the next election. These two yahoo's couldn't get this country out of a wet paper bag. I hope Obama wins, that way when this country bottoms out the Dems won't be able to blame the Republicans. They blame Bush for everything and he has no power over anything. Blame the do nothing Democrat run congress, There approval rating is like 2% or something. The lowest ever recorded in the history of America, that's something to be proud of, now they want me to elect a do nothing president like Obama. He'll be just like Clinton DO NOTHING, and ride the internet boom, like it was his doing. Then Bush comes in when the internet bubble burst, then 9/11, then the war on terror. Bush has had it rough, but ask the dems and they say that Slick Willy Clinton did it all, and he didn't do crap but ride on Reaganomics. I get so tired of the Dems blaming everyone but thereselves, If you ask them they have never done anything wrong, I really can't believe anyone in America votes Democrat, I quess I'm just old.

Congress is at about 15% approval.
Bush is at about 22-25% approval.

Bush has power to sign and pass or veto anything proposed by congress. And rarely does congress have enough votes to override a veto. So bush Does have power...and uses it with his signing authority too often. Bush has changed over 750 laws with his signing authority. http://www.boston.com/news/nation/articles/2006/04/30/bush_challenges_hundreds_of_laws/

So when you say bush doesn't have power...Seems he can rewrite about anything he wants to his liking. Thus the blame rests on HIM.

If you believe bush doesn't have power over anything...it only proves the disillusion of the republician party.

ThisThe dem controlled congress...For the last two years. And for 6 years prior it was repub controlled...Leading up to this mess.

Reaganomics...taking a debt from 900 billion to 5 trillion from 1980 to 1992. That my friend is exactly what people complain about. Borrow, leverage, debt, credit....Never pay for anything they actually can afford...then leave the mess and debt for the next guy. 5 TRILLION in debt when Bush sr left office. Bush JR of course following suit took us from 6.3 trillion to a cool 10 trillion or more with his 6 years of repub controlled congress.

This info is a little mis-leading but I can't find a chart to tell me per year.
President Congress control Debt Added
Ronald Reagan Republican 900bill-3trill 2.1trill
George H. W. Bush Republican 3trill-4.8trill 1.8trill
Bill Clinton Democratic 4.8trill-6.2trill 1.4trill
George W. Bush Republican 6.2trill-10.25trill 4.05trill

Because we know the dems have controlled congress for the past 2 years under JR even though it lists repubs.

Grand totals estimated
Republicans have added 7.95 TRILLION to the debt
Democrates have added 1.4 TRILLION to the debt.

Getting the picture here Jon??

So when I constantly focus on the FACTS and slam the republicians its for a reason. They have systematically flushed this country down the toilet via reaganomics, via the war in iraq, via star wars, via the cold war, via just plan STUPID spending.

When people blame bush jr and then you claim he doesn't have power...Why is the presidency listed as the most power position in the world...not country but world. Because of the global influence and sanctions he can impose on everyone. Not just our country but on other countries also. The president can wage war without congressional approval for 90 days. And it takes 90 minutes to launch nukes IF THAT. The president has the single most powerful position EVER and you discount it with disillusion and granderous spewing of complete idiocracy in your contemplation of how the democratic party has caused damage to the country.
