So after a month long battle with the bank and owner, I finally got it ironed out today and purchased a 2010 R56 2dr Hardtop Mini Cooper. It gets around 30mpg or more, and has loads of legroom. It has the 6-speed manual trans, and basic 4cyl engine. Its fun to drive and will basically triple my fuel savings. Its dirty right now, and a little ugly as much of it is covered with Plastidip, but with a little love I think it should clean up real nice. I probably overpaid a bit, and I know the battle wasn't worth it, but I was too far along to back out, so I forged ahead and kicked a couple people in the ***, and now I have a daily driver to give the Jeep's axles a break. Pics are on the phone, so Ill try to post up in a bit.

Now I just need to find a safe full of gold to unload into it. :D

Wait what? You like it? I was ready for a hailstorm of jabs you've had stocked up for a long time. I'm almost disappointed

And I thought gluck had a girls car. I guess you guys can bunk together at the all girls college...... A mini cooper was actually going to be my first car. The mini s supercharged manual. I settled on a truck instead because I am a man. Or maybe because the bank wouldn't approve me. Either one
I had a manual truck for my first vehicle, then I got another recently, but unfortunately the Mini has more balls than both!

Mine isn't supercharged. Basic model, simpler, less risk of blowing up like Gluck. Still gets 32mpg without paying for diesel too. But It cost me more upfront.

I have a lifted jeep, why not have a lowered car? It's a balance of both worlds.

Big day for the mini. I scrubbed the plastidip off the gas tank door, hatch, headlight bezels, and chrome trim on the hatch. The went to the carwash and cleaned up real nice. Then cleaned the windows. She's lookin pretty good now.

Ok, it has been washed, tires rotated, braking vibration/shimmy minimized, tires inspected, and checked for grease points (there are none). Sprayed the hinges with fluid film and eliminated squeaking, and never-seized everything in sight. Later Ill head to Advance Auto Retards to steal their scan tool and diagnose which of the wheel speed sensors is bad, and find out how much a set of front struts will be. One is leaking pretty good, I think its toast, which would sort of explain the occasional bumpsteer feeling (i.e. bump is felt worse on one side or the other)

Trying to get all the bugs worked out before a Michigan trip this weekend. Need this thing to get me there. Today is day 4 of ownership. It needs some codes reset and a new brake sensor. I'm thinking of going to a dealer to get it all set for a blank slate for me and for this trip. If I can walk away from a dealer with peace of mind and a better understanding of the car then it will be worth it.
I reset the tpms last night and it's doing better after the tote rotation. I need to get used to all these fancy things. I'm still looking for a temperature gauge that doesn't exist.

Made a dealership appointment tomorrow to learn some more about this thing. Its gonna cost me, but if it saves me the cost of a rental for the weekend then Im money ahead.

A rental is like 330, so if its less than that I'm happy.

Right now it's a question and answer session, with a multipoint used vehicle inspection which costs 100. Not sure what the questions will cost me. I'm not really sure I care right now. I have 15 hours of driving to do this weekend, and I can waste 330 on a rental, or put that towards my peace of mind and into my car. You can't possibly be telling me you would do the rental?

I hate dealers too, but someone needs to teach me a little more on this thing, because it's smart enough to know when it needs work, and too dumb to show me what I needs to see. While it is fun to drive and worms great for my purposes, I want to get a good baseline on how it should act and why. I'll destroy it if I think this noise or that indicator is normal and it's not.

Sorry for the long and redundant explanation, I'm a little stressed this week with nowhere to release it.

Just got back and it was 140 for a checkover. As expected I got less knowledge than time and money spent. But I knew that. So they verified a couple things for me, told me what I already knew, and explained a couple things. Also found out the part the p.o. replaced before I bought it is wrong and I need to do that before I leave Friday. So that sucks. On the hunt for parts now.

Thermostat from mini with coolant=$215 out the door. Picking it up in an hour and doing that tonight. Yay me.

Fyi, Napa wanted $130-230 depending on which one you want, and no coolant. And it wasn't in stock. Online parts places were much cheaper but rush shipping was killer. This is the lesser of two evils. Buy a fancy little car, pay for fancy little parts lol.
