Slip yoke eliminator 2001 XJ

I recently lifted my 2001 XJ with a rough country 3inch lift. I had some rub at first but I purchased the right wheel and tire combo” 15inch wheel 3.75 off set and 31*10.50 tires” and that fixed my problem. But then I had this terrible grinding noise coming from my rear axle. While driving if I pressed the gas a pop and grind noise and when I would let off the gas a pop and grind noise. I had my lift inspected to see if I had done something wrong and it was fine. At that point I let a mechanic check out the Jeep. He said I am having a problem with my transfer case and I had him service it. Upon the service we find that the transfer case is great but he thinks I need a Slip Yoke Eliminator. I would like to know if anyone has had problems like this with a lift before. Thanks Jason 01XJ

All the time.

XJ's, especially 97+ ones for some reason, pretty much universally require an SYE after 3-3.5" for the correct driveline angles. It's a common problem and really not that hard of an installation. The hardest part is pulling the t-case itself, splitting it and installing the SYE is cake as long as you're patient and organized.

The SYE will let you use a CV shaft in the rear, allowing a slightly steeper driveline angle and moving the slip joint to the driveshaft instead of the weak spot at the t-case. The easiest driveshaft substitute is the front shaft from an automatic Cherokee, which also means you only have to carry one trail spare shaft since both front and rear shafts are now effectively the same.
